ClimateBase: Climate Intelligence for Nigeria's Renewable Future

ClimateBase is built to support Nigeria’s shift to renewable energy. We aggregate and analyse climate data from across the country so developers, investors, researchers, and policymakers can make better decisions.

Our mission

We want climate data to be accurate, easy to find, and easy to use. Our goal is to help grow renewable energy across all 36 states by providing reliable wind and solar resource information. That means clearer site selection, stronger feasibility studies, and more informed policy.

What we provide

  • Location-level data: We hold detailed climate datasets for cities and observation sites in every state. You can explore by state or location and see what’s available.
  • Wind resource mapping: Access average daily and hourly wind speeds with interactive visualisations. Use them to compare sites and understand seasonal and geographic patterns.
  • Solar resource data: Hourly solar radiation data helps with solar project planning, yield estimates, and technology choice.
  • Interactive maps: Explore climate data on a map of Nigeria. Drill down by state and compare locations without switching tools.
  • AI-powered insights: Ask questions in natural language and get answers drawn from our data. Use it for quick checks, comparisons, or to explore ideas before running deeper analysis.

Who uses ClimateBase

  • Renewable energy developers: Site selection, resource assessment, and feasibility for wind and solar projects.
  • Investors and analysts: Due diligence, risk analysis, and benchmarking across regions and technologies.
  • Researchers and academics: Climate and energy research, modelling, and teaching.
  • Policy makers: Evidence-based policy design and monitoring for renewables and energy access.

Technology and coverage

We use modern data and web tools to process, visualise, and serve our datasets. The platform includes real‑time processing, interactive mapping, an AI chat interface, and APIs for programmatic access. Coverage includes all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with ongoing updates as new data becomes available.
